Recovering and Learning from Poker Losses
The players that you see winning Poker on a regular basis do so because of numerous factors, and not the least of which is their capacity to absorb defeats and learn from those experiences. Of the numerous strategies that you will study, learning how to recover from losses will be among the most essential.
The simple fact is that a lot of online Poker players are unable to handle losing. You will often see a lot of players, after suffering a series of setbacks at a particular limit, move up even higher. This is because they will try to recover what they lost. Of course that is very unlikely given that they could not even beat the other lower skilled players.
This only goes to show how much they have let their emotions affect their online Poker game. They have gone on tilt and are no longer thinking clearly or playing with any real objective in mind.
Other Poker players you will see re buy even after they had been stacked several time over. Yet you will still see them play the same wild, aggressive way. They have lost total control, simply because they could not handle losing.
The winning Poker player, on the other hand, not only knows how to recover from losing but also how to learn from that experience. If you are still new to the game, some of things that you can do.
The first, of course, is that of accepting that losing is a part of Poker. However, that does not mean that once you start losing, you should just take it as it comes. That is not the way to play, because such an approach will create a defeatist attitude.
Instead, you should focus your thoughts and energies on why you lost, rather than ruminating and fuming about what kind of pot you could have won. The other thing that you can do is to hone your skills continuously. By learning strategies and tactics, you will be able to recover from any loss.
When you start to play online Poker, it would also be a good idea to begin with the lower stakes games. Admittedly, the action and money are in the higher limit games, but at this point, what should concern you is to make sure that you have developed the ability to take in losses.
A good Poker player is often compared to a businessman who makes an investment, in this case the investment being made is the game. As with all businesses, you will sometimes incur a loss. That does not mean that you back out of course; you just analyze the cause and move on.
The same thing with online Poker; sit down and objectively look at all the facts and figures; once you have all the information in hand, coupled with the appropriate perspective, you will be able to recover from defeat and get back to winning.
